Gomphidius smithii Miller Cap 2.5-7.5cm across, convex-flattened to depressed; grayish to vinaceous gray; smooth, viscid when wet. Gills decurrent, broad, almost waxy; white then pale gray and finally blackish gray. Stem 30-75 x 5-15mm, tapered at base; white to dull grayish, with no yellow at base; dry above veil zone, viscid below. Flesh white. Odor pleasant. Taste pleasant. Spores long ellipsoid, 15-20 x 4.5-7µ. Deposit blackish. Habitat under Douglas fir. Found in coastal California. Season August-November. Edible but not recomended.
